Bypolls in the Bhabua and Jehanabad Assembly constituencies in Bihar to be held the same day.
By-elections in the Lok Sabha constituencies of Gorakhpur and Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh and Araria in Bihar, and the Bhabua and the Jehanabad Assembly constituencies in Bihar will be held on March 11, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Friday.
Nominations will be accepted till February 20 and they will be scrutinised the next day. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 23 and votes will be counted on March 14.
The dates have been decided after taking into consideration various factors such as local festivals, weather conditions and publication of electoral rolls among others, a media release from the ECI said.
Byelections were necessitated in Gorakhpur and Phulpur after Yogi Adityanath and Keshav Prasad Maurya vacated their seats to become the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. The Araria seat fell vacant after the death of RJD MP Mohammed Taslimuddin.
The BJP won the Bhabua Assembly seat in 2015 but its MLA Anand Bhushan Pandey passed away in November last.
Former Health Minister Mundrika Singh Yadav won from Jehanabad, but he succumbed to dengue in October last.
